Theodore (Ted) J. Cohen is an expert in sophisticated business and litigation matters.

He began his career practicing at major law firms in New York City and later in Los Angeles. He specializes in representing business owners in various industries, including investment advisors and  private equity funds, in connection with business and litigation matters. In addition to his experience in private practice, Mr. Cohen served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of The Pilgrim Group, a multi-billion dollar mutual fund complex, and as Executive Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of MGM Communications Co., a New York Stock Exchange listed multi-national entertainment and communications company.

Mr. Cohen often serves as outside general counsel to middle-market companies, including Aristotle Capital Management LLC, a nation-wide investment advisory firm with over $50 billion in assets under management. In this role, he provides strategic legal advice, helps select and manage outside counsel and ensures that counsel stay focused on achieving business goals while managing risk and expense. 

In addition to his expertise in business and transactional matters, Mr. Cohen has extensive experience in business litigation, particularly in cases involving breach of contract, RIA breakaways and  lift outs, trade secret litigation and cases involving non-compete, non-solicit and other restrictive covenants. He has litigated and arbitrated throughout the United States.

Mr. Cohen was born in Brooklyn, New York, received his undergraduate degree in Economics from The State University of New York at Albany (B.A. magna cum laude) and his law degree from Fordham Law School, where he was a member of the Fordham Law Review. He is admitted to practice in California and New York. Mr. Cohen is married and has three children. He is an avid road cyclist and enjoys boating, kayaking, fishing, scuba diving and motorcycle riding.
